The Coral are asking you to admit to your cassette compilation mistakes and send your old mix-tape crimes to them in an anonymous amnesty, with a chance the band will return your tape cleansed of its sins. Dig around in those old boxes of cassettes and send in collections of saccharine love songs given to you by unwanted admirers and tunes chopped abruptly before a radio DJ cuts in. It’s time to put these tapes out of their misery.
The fifty most offensive cassettes will be recorded over by the band, replacing the old tracks with their new album, ‘Distance Inbetween’ (released March 4th). The reformed cassettes will then be returned to their owners.
“Home taping didn’t exactly kill music, but we know it caused some horrible collections of music to be compiled, so it’s time for an amnesty, now is the time to dig into drawers, cupboards and boxes and admit to cassette crimes, or offer up the bad decisions of friends, relatives and lovers who made tapes that should never, ever be heard again.’’ – James Skelly.
Send them to The Coral, PO Box 29479, NW1 6GG with your full name, a UK return address and contact details, plus a note fully explaining the history of the cassette in question.
